This is a large two phase project. Phase One will be site preparation, once the flood season has passed.
First, there needs to be a fence to separate the wetlands. Invasive blackberries and other trash must be removed. Native plants, clover, and wildflowers will be added to make the site more attractive for people and wildlife from birds and butterflies, to bees, ducks, and bats.
Volunteers for this work will be greatly appreciated. See the page about scheduled work parties.
The donation of fencing would be magnificent. Like Cross Park, some split rail would make a great nature boundary. The donor would be given some advertising privileges.
We have received a generous donation of trail gravel from Washington Rock in Kapowsin. There will be a need to do some leveling and add trails to prevent muddy traffic in phase two, an event space for a community market.
The west portion of the space will be native vegetation, but the event space will need mowing due to fire risk. Donation of a lawn mower or landscaping services would be appreciated.
Getting around on the property for watering the new plants might be easier with an electric cart. Someone with a spare golf cart would be appreciated.
Grants will be applied to, and monetary donations will fill in the funding gaps. Monetary donations can be made to The Clover Creek Commons through the Spanaway Community Association, click here to give though PayPal.
Phase Two of the project will be the event space and the Community Market. Several Parkland businesses are organizing to plan this portion. Pierce County has agreed to allow a closure of A Street during a market event since there are many nearby side streets to go around the closure.
Tents, vendors, artists, musicians, and food trucks will be organized by the group planning Phase Two. This portion will be dependent on the length of the rainy season and progress on Phase One.
