Clover Creek Commons

This project has been stalled by Pierce County.

First, it was the poison hemlock, then the need for a project sponsor. But now, and more understandably, the C street drainage project design has stalled the use of this property.

If you stand on the bridge over Clover Creek just south of Tule Lake Road and look over the edge, when there is water flowing, you will see a drain pipe on each side of the creek. Those pipes are dumping runoff water from Pacific Avenue straight into the creek, unfltered.

For many years, creek advocates have asked the county to do something about this. Now with the concerns about 6PPDQ harming Chinook salmon, the county has actually placed this project on their capital budget.

To do this, they have to move the drains. They also have to make some ponds to catch the water to filter it. Until it is decided what the design will be, the property the county already owns, like the potential Commons site are on hold for the design phase.

We have requested that they consider using part of the property and leaving the A Street section available for the Commons, but that will be in the hands of the designers.

Well, thanks to the poison hemlock, we did not do a lot of work that will just be torn out in a year or two.
